Interviews Held for Hiawatha City Administrator
10/30/2013

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha City Commission during a special meeting Tuesday evening conducted initial interviews with six candidates for the city administrator position.
The commission met in closed-door session to interview the candidates via phone and/or skype.
Following the initial interviews, the commission decided to conduct more in-depth interviews with four of the candidates in-person.  A date hasn’t been finalized yet for those interviews.
The League of Kansas Municipalities, who are assisting the city in the search for a new administrator, recommended 12 candidates to the commission for consideration last week from among a total of 40 applications received.   The commission then selected eight for initial interviews, however one dropped out after taking another job and another wasn’t available to be interviewed Tuesday evening.
The position came open in late July after the commission voted  to terminate the contract with Lynne Ladner.   Mayor Crosby Gernon is serving as acting administrator until the position is filled.
In other business, the commission approved adding 18 laterals to the sanitary sewer improvement project currently underway at a total cost of $36,864.
The action came after a review of funding calculations for the project  and on the recommendation of project manager Galen Lay with TREKK Design Group, of Kansas City.
