Proposed Tax Repeal Would Cost Doniphan Co Thousands
10/30/2013

(KNZA)--The proposed elimination of the Kansas mortgage registration tax would result in a loss of revenue to Doniphan County of $80,000 to $100,000 annually.

That’s what Doniphan County Register of Deeds Susan Schuster told the county commission Monday.

The Kansas Bankers Association is pushing for the repeal of the tax and plans to take it before the state legislature during the 2014 session.

Elimination of the tax would affect other county register of deeds offices as well.
In order to make up for the lost revenue, Schuster said the recording fees and/or mill levy rate would need to be increased.
