(KNZA)--Despite Wednesday's thunderstorms, and the accompanying rain, Hiawatha’s 99th annual Halloween Frolic drew crowds to the city’s downtown.
Starting with the traditional afternoon Kiddie Parade, the full day of events capped off with the evening’s Grand Parade.
Prior to the numerous Halloween-themed floats rolling down Oregon street during the evening, the 99th annual Hiawatha Halloween Queen was crowned.
Selected for that honor was Miss Horton: Katelynn Shayne Hoobler.
As the winner, Hoobler, a senior at Horton High School, will receive a $750 scholarship.
1st runner-up and winner of a $500 scholarship was Miss Baileyville: Abby Olberding, a senior at B& B High School.
Miss Lancaster: Allison Becker, a senior at Horton High School, was named Miss Congeniality and will receive a $200 scholarship.
13 girls from area communities competed this year in the scholarship contest.
The crowning was held at the Brown County Historical Society Memorial Auditorium due to the rainy weather.
