(KAIR)--It has been nearly two years since Sergeant David Enzbrenner was tragically cut down in the line of duty, and now local residents are pushing to raise money to have signs erected dedicating a stretch of highway in his honor. Everest resident Patty Moore came before the Atchison city commission Monday to gather their input on the project.
She says that the Kansas Department of Transportation is willing to install the signs for free, but she needs about $3,700 to pay for the signs themselves. She suggested southbound highway seven at the K-20 junction as the ideal place, but warned that they do have to have a sign at both ends of the highway. She says that she really wants it to be highways seven that is dedicated to Enzbrenner, because it is the one he drove on the most often.
City manager Trey Cocking will be meeting with state representative Jerry Henry on this project, and will come back to the commission with more information in the near future.
The city does have an account to which donations for the signs can be deposited into. If you wish to make a donation to this fund, you can mail or bring your donation to city hall. Checks should be made out to The David Enzbrenner Highway Memorial Fund in care of Police Chief Mike Wilson.
