(KNZA)--The Hiawatha City Commission is a step closer to hiring a new city administrator.
Four of the five finalists for the position were interviewed by the commission during a closed-door session at their regular meeting Monday evening. The fifth candidate will be interviewed during a special meeting next Monday evening.
The four candidates interviewed Monday are from Lakeland, Tennessee; Camdenton, Missouri; Beloit and Wichita. The fifth candidate is from Norman, Oklahoma.
40 applications were received for the position.
The position came open in late July after the commission voted to terminate the contract with Lynne Ladner.
Mayor Crosby Gernon is serving as acting administrator until the position is filled.
