(KNZA)--A 22-year-old Troy woman is facing multiple charges in a Brown County identity fraud and phone harassment case.
Molly Smith made her first appearance in a Brown County courtroom Wednesday on four felony counts—including one count of criminal threat and three counts of identity fraud--along with three misdemeanor counts of harassment by telephone.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill told KNZA News Smith is accused of assuming a fake identity in order to text various individuals in the Hiawatha area and then provide them with misinformation. Hill says the seven alleged victims in the case all have ties to the Hiawatha Community Hospital where Smith worked as a records clerk at the time of her arrest.
Smith was arrested Tuesday following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. She remains in the Brown County Jail on $50,000 bond after a request for a bond modification was denied Wednesday.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for November 13th.

This woman stole a family members credit card, racked up over $5,000, and was given a misdemeanor!! You would have thought shed learned her lesson the first time!

Laura, that is not true. Spreading rumors of that nature are shameful and help neither the victims nor anyone else. Also Mackenzie, Megan? it had nothing to do with medical records, she was provided the numbers by a different means. Making up lies to cause drama is just as hurtful as the prank calls these girls made.
