(KAIR)--The city of Atchison announced Wednesday that they had acquired eleven properties at the Atchison county tax sale for the total purchase price of $270.
Ten of the properties lie within city limits, with one other just a few miles outside of the city. City Community Development Director Stephanie Leif says that the city plans to work with housing organizations and interested individuals to redevelop most of the properties.
Most of the properties are already zoned residential, but Leif says that could change for the one lot outside of the city limits as it sits near a highway, and it could be zoned commercial at some point.
State of Kansas statues say that if taxes are not paid on a property for a certain amount of time, the county can auction it off to interested parties. Bidding on each property started at $20
