(KNZA)--A two-vehicle Douglas County crash sends two Ozawkie residents to the hospital Thursday evening.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 67-year-old Ruby Tavis was the driver of a Dodge Caravan westbound on K-10 when another vehicle failed to yield the right of way when attempting to cross K-10 at East 1200 Road.

The crash left Ruby Tavis, and her passenger, 33-year-old Sonya Tavis, with what the Kansas Highway Patrol describes as disabling injuries.

The elder Tavis was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital while Sonya Tavis was transported to Topeka's Stormont Vail.

Ruby Tavis was buckled up at the time of the wreck but Sonya Tavis was not.

The driver of the vehicle that failed to yield is identified as Lawrence resident Cody Bruce.  Not wearing a seatbelt, the 23-year-old Bruce suffered only possible injuries and was not transported for treatment.

The Patrol says the wreck happened around 7:20 Thursday evening.
