11/08/2013

(MSC News)--Area communities are set to commemorate those who served, with ceremonies planned to mark Monday's Veteran's Day Holiday.

That includes the Brown County community of Horton, where the long running tradition of holding a Veteran's Day Parade continues, sponsored by American Legion Post #7 and VFW Post #3021.

The parade begins at 2:30 and will travel down Horton's Central Avenue and West 8th Street.

Jackson County's City of Holton will also commemorate the holiday, holding a Veteran's Day Celebration on the downtown square.

That includes an 11:00 Honor Rifle Salute, followed by a 1:00 parade to feature miltary vehicles, bands, floats and other entries.

The Nemaha Valley Elementary and Middle Schools will hold their annual Veteran's Day program Monday. All veterans are invited to attend the event in the Middle School Gymnasium beginning at 1:00, followed by cookies and coffee in the cafeteria.

The Wetmore KAY Club's annual ceremony will begin in the morning at 10:00, with the assembly to be held at Wetmore High School.

The Atchison County Community High School chapter of the National Honor Society will also recognize those who served.

That will happen during a Monday morning ceremony at 8:30 in the school gymnasium.

Falls City will also honor veterans  with the annual program beginning at 11:00 at Falls City High School.  2003 Dawson-Verdon High School graduate Captain Daniel Fritz will serve as guest speaker.

The Veteran's Day parade will happen at 1:30 Monday afternoon, while a Veteran's Day dinner and progam will begin at 6:00 at the First United Methodist Church.
