(KTNC) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to plan ahead and check road conditions before heading out onto the highways. A wintry mix of weather is expected to impact the region, including northwest Missouri, overnight with rain changing to sleet and snow this evening.
MoDOT officials caution that even light precipitation can cause roads to become slick. They say to allow for extra travel time and check road conditions before you leave home.
MoDOT’s traveler information map is available online at www.modot.org/northwest. The site has real-time views of road conditions for the state’s highways and Interstates. MoDOT officials say they also have an updated traveler information map application for smart phone and tablet users, available at the iPhone App Store and the Android Marketplace.
While the map is updated regularly during winter weather events, department officials say road conditions can deteriorate quickly.
If you’re on the road and need assistance in Missouri, pull over and call 888-275-6636, 24-hours a day 356 days a year.
