Falls City Police Chief Retiring
12/03/2013

(KLZA) -- Falls City Police Chief John Caverzagie has submitted his notice to Mayor Tim Hersh of his intent to retire at the end of the month.

Caverzagie will have spent 35 years and three months as a member of the Falls City Police Department.  Caverzagie served seven years as a Patrolman, was promoted to Assistant Chief, a position he held for 12 years and was appointed Chief by then Mayor Marshall Maddox in 1997.

Chief Caverzagie says there have been lots of changes in law enforcement since he started, including how a new officer gets started in the profession.  He noted that when he started he received about an hour of riding with another officer he was put on the street by himself and was told to call if needed anything.

Currently the Falls City Police Department has eight officers including the Chief, plus two part-time officers.  Applications will be accepted for the position of Chief of Police and Mayor Tim Hersh will submit a name to be appointed to the position.  That appointment must then be confirmed by the City Council.
