12/05/2013

(KLZA)--The Richardson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a press release on the single vehicle accident Wednesday resulting in the death of 62 year old Charles Furrow of Falls City.

A caller notified the Sheriff’s Office at 10:29 a-m of the accident south of Rulo on 703 Trail near the intersection with 664 Avenue.  A witness told Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser that Furrow’s pickup and trailer skidded off the icy road and struck a power pole.  The power pole fell across the trailer, and two lines were suspended approximately two and four feet above the ground.

The witness said Furrow was able to get out of his vehicle and said he was not injured.  Furrow climbed between the two power lines to walk up to the roadway and speak with the witness.

After the witness notified authorities of the accident, Furrow said he would return to his pickup to stay warm and the witness left.

When and Iowa Tribal Police Officer arrived on the scene of the accident he found Mr. Furrow laying face down underneath the power lines. Furrow had no vital signs and the officer started CPR after calling for further assistance.  Efforts to revive Furrow were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.  Sheriff Houser’s initial report indicated it is likely Charles Furrow died of electrocution.
