(KAIR)--Voters in Buchanan County approved a quarter cent sales tax last month to fund a new ambulance service for the county, but that is only the first step in the process. County Commissioners are now faced with the task of making the transition from the service provided by Heartland hospital to the new service as painless as possible.
Heartland has announced they will no longer provide the service, so the county will take over in July. Commissioners have pledged that the level of service that county residents are used to will not change.
Earlier this week, the commissioners met with a consultant to address some of the concerns they have with the transition. Some of those concerns include how the Affordable Health Care Act will effect the service, the exact number of people who will serve on board of directors, and various billing issues.
The new sales tax will take effect on January 1st.
