(KAIR)--The Atchison County Commission has been working for the past few months on upgrading the old county recycling center into a new headquarters for the county's EMS service. Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says that there has been significant progress on the project, despite some minor changes to the floor plan, but this change will end up saving the county money in the long run. He says the goal is to have the project completed by this coming spring
Also, during their meeting Tuesday afternoon, commissioners appointed Chase Brunick to the position of Solid Waste Manager. Schuele says that Brunick had been working on special projects for the county, and was a big part of the county's transition to the new solid waste tipping fee format. During the same meeting, Staci Joice was promoted to the position of Assistant Solid Waste Manager. She had previously served as Administrative Assistant at the Transfer Station.
Both positions will start on January 1st.
