Mound City School District Approves New Parent Program
12/20/2013

(KLZA) -- The Mound City School Board approved the school audit report presented for the 2012-13 school year. There were no significant  problems outlined in the report.

Superintendent Ken Eaton reported the new boiler has been installed in the school at a cost of nearly $28,000.  The new boiler replaced one nearly 25 years old.  After a couple of days of service a manufacturing problem caused the new boiler to shut down but the problem was quickly fixed.  It did make for a cold day at school since the backup boiler was down for repair when the new one shut down.

The Mound City Board did approve supporting the startup of a Parent Teacher organization in the district.

Student Council representatives discussed the upcoming homecoming and courtwarming activities at the school as well as the Fun Day for students scheduled for Friday.

Principal Korey Miles said demonstrations on how to use jumper cables, how to change a flat tire will be part of the day. It was also reported that art students have refurbished the Mound City Panther sign on the southwest corner of the school grounds.

Superintendent Eaton presented information on transportation.  Apple Bus Service provides bus service for the district.  Eaton says while rates continue to increase, the amount of reimbursement from the state continues to decrease. With more than 160 riders efficiency is rated at 86 percent. Based on a formula efficiency more or less than 104 percent reduces reimbursement rates.  Because of the distance between riders in the rural area’s, the efficiency rate is reduced.

While state statutes call for reimbursement of 75 percent of the costs for transportation,  Eaton says the Mound City district will receive only approximately 26 percent of the total cost which means more local money spent on transportation.
