Nemaha Co Ks Attorney Assumes Additional Duties
01/03/2014

(KMZA)-- With the new year, Nemaha County Attorney Brad Lippert has taken on the additional duties of county counselor.

The Nemaha County Commission voted this week to eliminate the position of assistant county attorney and create the new position of county counselor at a salary of $2,575 a month with no additional benefits paid unless required by the state. The commission then voted to appoint Lippert to the position of Nemaha County Counselor, effective January 1st, 2014.  Lippert will take steps to eliminate his private practice so it doesn’t interfere with his duties as Nemaha County Attorney and County Counselor.

In other business, the commission approved the 2014 Nemaha County Re-organization, which includes a 20 cent an hour pay raise for county employees.

And following a public hearing, the commission voted to grant a ten-year, sliding scale tax abatement for a recent $1.6 million expansion project at the CJ Foods facility in Bern.

Bern businessman Brent Lortscher spoke in support of the abatement. Lortscher said he was in favor of the abatement due to the economic growth that the business expansion brings to the community and to the county. It’s projected that 38 jobs will be added at Bern plant in the first year following construction and 52 jobs over ten years.
