Nebraska Judicial Branch Warns of Email Scam
01/10/2014

(AP) - Nebraska court officials have issued a warning about scam emails that have been circulating, delivering a malicious virus to recipients' computers.

The Nebraska Judicial Branch said in an email Friday that the emails often arrive with a subject line that says: "Hearing of your case in Court" or "Notice to Appear in Court." Opening any attachment or clicking on any link could trigger the virus.

Officials say the emails are not from the courts and are not about court cases. Nebraska Supreme Court spokeswoman Janet Bancroft says Nebraska courts do not communicate through unsolicited emails. She says the courts do occasionally send emails or text messages, but those communications are designed for specific programs. The addressees have provided their contact information to the court.
