Pawnee City Council Gives Reprieve for Condemned House

City Hall - Pawnee City

(KTNC) --  The Pawnee City Council spent time Monday evening discussing the status of the property at 923 8th Street, which has been condemned.  The council met with the property’s owner, David Troyer, and Shae Christiansen, who is in the process of purchasing the property from Troyer.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the house’s previous owners did fix a few, but not all, the things the city had asked them to correct with the house.  After discussion, the council approved a motion to give Christiansen until June 9th to make the repairs and bring the house up to city code. If that’s not done, the city will start condemnation procedures.
Stephens says previous owners had fixed a porch and a hole in part of the foundation, but other work needs to be done.
In other business Monday night, the Pawnee City Council took steps to bring in part-time help while two city employees are recuperating from injuries.  Just two of four members of the city crew are able to work presently, so Stephens says they’ll ask former Shop Foreman Don Inglis to fill in on a part-time basis.
Jeff Spier is recovering from shoulder surgery and Jake Packett is scheduled to have knee surgery in the next few weeks.
Pawnee City is also taking applications for a swimming pool manager and assistant manager for the summer.  Stephens says they are also looking for another member of the Planning Commission, as Bob Miller has informed the city that he does not wish to be reappointed when his term expires this year.
