Nemaha NRD Board Officers to Remain the Same in 2014
01/20/2014

(KTNC) -- The Nemaha Natural Resources District officers will remain the same in 2014 as they were in 2013.  The board selected Rob Bohling of Johnson to be the Chairman, Steve Sugden of Adams as Vice-Chair, and Don Siske of Table Rock as Secretary-Treasurer.
Orval Gigstad of Syracuse will represent the Nemaha NRD on the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts.
Siske and Dan Hodges were chosen to represent the Nemaha NRD at the upcoming legislative conference of the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts in late January.
In action items this month, the Nemaha NRD board approved a bid from JC Dirt Work of Cook to mow the District’s four public recreation areas.  The company’s bid of $16,899 per year was the lowest of four bids.  The contract is renewable annually for the next three years and begins in April.
The board renewed a permit to irrigate from a structure identified as Muddy number-10 south of Auburn. The original agreement was signed in 1984 and has been renewed every 10 years since.  The amount of water available for irrigation was adjusted to reflect the current capacity of the pool, which has been affected by siltation.  The board also approved three other well permits for irrigation.
The Board also made changes to the policy for use of the NRD’s meeting room.  The changes include a clarification of allowable use, cleaning and care of the room and kitchen area.
Former NRD Board member and current state senator Dan Watermeier spoke with the board.  He spoke about the Water Funding Task Force, of which he was a member.
Watermeier expressed his concern that the general public has not been sold on the need to fund the projects the Task Force identified.  They are seeking $50 million a year for water projects in Nebraska.
