Wathena Man Sentenced in Standoff Case
01/20/2014

(KNZA)--A Wathena man charged in connection with a stand-off last March with law enforcement officers has been placed on probation.

35-year-old William Rhyne was recently sentenced in Doniphan County District Court on charges of criminal threat and possession of methamphetamines. The Kansas Chief reports Rhyne was given a suspended prison sentence on the charges and placed on one year probation.

Several additional felony charges against Rhyne were dismissed by the county attorney.

Authorities say Rhyne barricaded himself inside a trailer home at the Gaslight Acres Mobile Home Park the morning of March 22nd after officers responded to investigate a report of a man acting suspiciously.

Officers from several law enforcement agencies surrounded the trailer and a negotiator was called in to assist.  About four hours later, Rhyne was arrested without incident.
