The Heart of Jackson Humane Society is chosen to share a portion of funds donated by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
The organization will receive $1,000 of the over $88,000 donated by the tribe to various organizations during its fourth quarter.

The other funds donated by the Mayetta headquartered Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation are earmarked for numerous organizations based in Topeka and Lawrence.
Lawrence organizations that received donations include: The Haskell Foundation ($20,000), Just Food of Douglas Co. ($6,000); the Lawrence Community Shelter ($5,000) and the Friends of the Kaw ($2,000).
In Topeka, organizations that received awards were: St. Francis Health Foundation ($20,000); Let’s Help ($10,000); Easter Seals Capper Foundation ($5,000); Salvation Army ($5,000); The Boys & Girls Club of Topeka ($5,000); Washburn University Foundation ($4,000); St. Matthew Catholic Church ($2,200); Friends of the Mulvane Art Museum ($2,112), and Ms. Wheelchair of Kansas ($1,500).
The Charitable Contributions Committee is comprised of six tribal members, who along with the Tribal Council selected the organizations to receive the quarterly distributions. Areas that are focused on when determining the distribution of funds include groups involved in education, health and community services, environmental protection and preservation, and religious organizations that have an impact on the spiritual wellness and quality of life for all.
