(KAIR)--Atchison residents who frequent the Farmers Market will soon see more than just fruits and vegetables on display. The Atchison Art Association presented an art project they plan to place at the market to the Atchison City Commission Monday afternoon, and asked for their support. Community Development Director Stephanie Leif says the project entails eighteen tile mosaics that will line the southern portion of the Farmers Market, separating the railroad tracks from the market. Each piece is separate, with colorful tiles making up different designs on each one.
Leif says the theme of the project reflects one special element of Atchison, with many more projects planned to highlight others; with the general idea being to celebrate different cultural elements of the Atchison community.
The Commission voted 4-0 to support the project. The Atchison Art Association expects the first phase of the project to start as soon as weather allows, and hopes to have it completed, with help from community members, by the end of the year.
