Identity of Dead Cooper Nuclear Contract Worker Released

 (KLZA) -- The Nemaha County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the contractor worker found dead in the reactor building at Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville Tuesday morning.

The worker has been identified at 66-year-old Ronald Nurney, from Smithfield, Virginia.  An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.  According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, no foul play or industrial accident is suspected.  It appears the death was from natural causes.

The body of Nurney was discovered between 7:30 and 8 Tuesday morning by Cooper Nuclear Plant personnel.  The plant’s control room declared a medical emergency with response from plant emergency medical technicians.

Nebraska Public Power District Officials reported the incident to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and OSHA, as required.
