Auburn Projects Considered for Funding
02/17/2014

(KTNC) --Two projects in Auburn are among the four projects that have applied for Urban Special Project funding from the Nemaha Natural Resources District. The NRD Board reviewed the applications last week.
The City of Auburn applied for funding for plantings and educational displays associated with a new trail at the Recreation Complex. Auburn Public Schools applied for funding for a nature explore playground area. The Village of Firth asked for funding for a native tree planting in a public park. A fourth application did not appear to qualify for funding.
Final applications are due by May 1, and the NRD Board will consider final approval at its May meeting.
In action at its meeting last week, the NRD Board approved irrigation well permits for four applicants, including Arlin Beethe in Johnson County, and two permits each for Chad and Carol Herr and Cade Herr in Richardson County.
The board approved a revised agreement with Randy Gyhra for a cost-share dam project. The board approved the agreement even though it is above the $50,000 normally allowed for such projects, as NRD officials say the structure will provide important flood control within the Turkey Creek Watershed.
The board approved a bid from Schuster’s of Beatrice for a 2014 Arctic Cat to replace a 1998 Kawasaki ATV. The net bid after trade-in was for just over $4,800.
And the Nemaha NRD Board agreed to provide $1,000 towards the new Nebraska Agricultural Experience Building at the state fairgrounds in Grand Island. All NRDs in the state were asked to contribute toward the project, which aims to provide an interactive, educational opportunity focusing on agriculture and natural resources. The building and exhibits are expected to cost $5.5 million and be available to visitors year-round.
