Repair Options Discussed for Doniphan Co Road
02/21/2014

(KNZA)--Repair options were discussed at this week’s Doniphan County Commission meeting for 195th Road, east of Troy.

County Road Superintendent Bob Edie told the commission the county has three options for repairing the nearly 3 mile stretch of concrete roadway, formerly old Highway 36.

The first option is to remove the existing concrete and replace it with new concrete.  The second option is an asphalt overlay after removal of the existing concrete.  Edie said the third and most feasible option would be to widen the road from 18 to 24 feet, build up the roadway for proper drainage, and then put down a layer of base rock and let it settle for one year prior to chip sealing.  He said the roadway could be built up and base rock put down this year, with the road chip sealed in 2015 with the commission’s approval.

The commission asked Edie to obtain cost estimates for chip sealing the nearly 3 miles of roadway for the board’s consideration.

In other business, the commission voted to purchase an 8 by 120-foot tube for a repair project on 160th Road in the 1st District, a 6 by 120-foot tube for a repair project on Old Kiowa Road in the 2nd District, and miscellaneous tubes for a total cost of $60,575.
