Bridge Replacement Set On K-63 in Nemaha Co.
02/24/2014

(KMZA)--A bridge replacement project on K-63 Highway in Nemaha County, about two miles north of U.S. 36, is set to begin March 3rd.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says crews will replace the existing 153-foot by 26-foot wide structure with a 180-foot by 36-foot reinforced concrete haunch slab structure.

Work will take place daily Monday through Friday during daylight hours throughout the project duration.

On March 3, crews will begin installing detour signage. Then, on March 5th, crews will close northbound and southbound K-63 over the bridge to all through traffic. Traffic will utilize a marked detour route.  In addition, crews will add stop signs at the K-178/St. Benedict Road intersection and 176th Road intersection, making it a four-way stop for all traffic throughout the bridge closure duration.

Drivers should expect minor delays and must use the marked detour route throughout the project duration.

Scandia, Ks-based Reece Construction Company is the primary contractor on the more than $950,000 project.  The project is scheduled for completion in early September, weather permitting.

The project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.
