(KNZA)--Another hurdle is overcome in Wal-Mart's plans to construct a supercenter, and gas station, in the Jackson County community of Holton, replacing the small store in operation since 1981.
Holton City Manager Bret Bauer says the City's Planning Commission Monday evening approved the final plat for the project, which now awaits City Commission approval.
Also approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals was a variance submitted by Wal-Mart regarding parking lot size regulations.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman, April Garcia, told us earlier this month an exact timeline for groundbreaking, and the start of construction, has not yet been finalized. “There's still design elements that need to be worked out and civil engineering types of questions that need to be worked out. There's still several steps in the process until we break ground,” Garcia explained. “Once we break ground, that will be about a ten to twelve month process to upgrade the store and open up a new store for our customers in Holton.”
The 70,000 square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter is planned to be constructed on two lots located at Holton's Arizona Avenue.
Plans now await Holton City Commission approval, but Bauer says when that will happen currently remains undetermined.
