(KNZA)-- A Troy woman has pleaded no contest to eleven counts contained in an amended complaint filed in a Brown County identity fraud and phone harassment case.
Molly Smith entered the plea Friday in Brown County District Court to one count of criminal threat, two counts of identity fraud, and eight misdemeanor counts of harassment by telephone. Sentencing was set for April 21st
Smith had originally been charged with seven counts of identity fraud, criminal threat and harassment by telephone.
County Attorney Kevin Hill said Smith assumed a false identity in order to text various individuals in the Hiawatha area last year, sending harassing and threatening messages. Hill said an additional count of identity fraud occurred in February-March of this year.
Arraignment for co-defendant, Hiawatha resident Amanda Gunderson, was continued this week to March 31st. Gunderson is accused of aiding and abetting Smith and faces three counts.
Both women were arrested in November following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and remain free on bond.
