New Ambulance Service Is On Schedule
03/12/2014

(KAIR)--It has been a long time coming, but everything appears to be on track for the scheduled start of a new county run ambulance service in Buchanan county.

According to KQ2-TV, Heartland Health will transfer management of the service to the county on July 1. Heartland had announced last fall that they were ending the service because they felt as though they were loosing too much money with it.

During the transition, the county will lease ambulances from Heartland for the first year and a half, but the Heartland name will be removed after the July 1 transfer date. A new governing body entitled Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority or REMSA, will oversee the authority of the service. The REMSA logo will replace the Heartland name currently on the ambulances.

Heartland's Associate Administrator for Urgent Care Janie Shumaker says that every little detail is being looked over to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible. She is confident that there will be zero interruption of emergency medical services in the county.

The service will be funded by a quarter cent sales tax passed by county residents last fall.
