(KAIR)--Atchison County officials are working on using advanced computer technology to allow them to create a detailed geographic database of the county. According to County Commission Chair Jeff Schuele GIS, or Geographic Information Systems, has become a very useful tool for the county. He says County GIS Tech Roger Denton has already been hard at work. He has created a GIS base map for bridges and roads in the county. That includes maps of every bridge along with a report that is available online.
Schuele says this kind of mapping allows them to gain a visual idea of county structures and resources since they are not always aware of where everything is in the county, especially bridges since they are numbered. But graphically, they can see them all geographically on a county map.
Schuele says people can go to the county website and check out multiple database maps that Denton has created. He has taken data from county departments and assimilated it into a format that can be easily read.
