(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Board of Education has approved a 2014-2015 school calendar.
Under the calendar approved by the board this week, the first day of school for elementary, 5th and 9th graders only will be August 14th. The first day of school for all other grades will be August 15th.
Christmas break will be December 22nd-January 2nd and spring break will be March 16th-20th.
The last day of school will be May 21st, 2015.
Three school calendar options were considered, and the one selected was preferred by teachers and board members.
In other business, the board voted to allow district patron Paul Mendez another chance to raise funds to add a high school baseball program.
Mendez came up about 45-hundred dollars short of raising the required $20,000 by February 1st of this year to add the sport for the 2014-2015 school year and asked for another chance.
Mendez will now have until February 1st of next year to raise the necessary funds in order to add baseball for the 2015-2016 school year.
