(KNZA)--Plans proceed for the construction of a scaled down version of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in the city of Holton.
The retail giant plans to replace the current store with a new 70,000 square foot store, on two lots at Arizona Avenue located at the city's southern edge.
The Holton City Commission Monday evening gave the go-ahead to the company's plans to proceed by saying yes to the final plat for the project, which also includes a gas station.
City Manager Bret Bauer says there was little discussion leading up to the approval, but questions pertaining to drainage, storm water and placement of the gas station gas tanks were posed to the consultant in attendance and answered prior to the vote.
Wal-Mart Spokeswoman Delia Garcia last month stated that an exact timeline for groundbreaking, and the start of construction, has not yet been finalized. "“There's still design elements that need to be worked out and civil engineering types of questions that need to be worked out. There's still several steps in the process until we break ground,” Garcia explained. “Once we break ground, that will be about a ten to twelve month process to upgrade the store and open up a new store for our customers in Holton.”
The current Holton Wal-Mart has been in operation since 1981.
