(KNZA)--Hiawatha City Commissioner Steffen Shamburg says the cities of Hiawatha and Horton need to do a better job of working together.
Shamburg proposed at Monday’s Hiawatha City Commission meeting that a joint work session be set up with the Horton City Commission to see if there’s some things the two communities can do jointly to save money and be more efficient.
Shamburg says he believes there are ways the two Brown County communities, only 14 miles apart, can partner and save money.
Shamburg says he recently discussed the proposal with Horton Mayor Tim Lentz, and he thought it was a good idea. Hiawatha commissioners also voiced their support, and Shamburg challenged each of them to brainstorm 10 things the city of Hiawatha could do with Horton. He said he would like to see the Horton City Commission do the same thing. Shamburg said he already had at least 6 or 7 ideas.
City Administrator Mike Nichols was directed to contact the city of Horton to set up a meeting.

Horton and the community need to stay far away from this!!!! The Hiawatha folks must see a chance to make a buck somewhere. Horton really could have used some show of support from Hiawatha officials during the Armory closure ordeal few years back and when were asked were told it did not affect them so they declined. Hiawatha saw Horton get a little pub from the CNBC personality Marcus Lemonis visit and Must see an opportunity??? Horton needs to turn away and RUN from this!
