(KNZA)--Doniphan County voters will decide during the August 5th primary election whether the countywide one-percent sales tax should be renewed for another 5 year period.
The County Commission voted unanimously on Monday to place the issue on the ballot.
Revenue from the sales tax would be used to finance capital improvement projects, road improvements, to update and modify the countywide 911 emergency system and for property tax relief.
If approved by voters, the sales tax renewal would take effect October 1st, 2015.
In other business, the commission accepted the lone bid from Topeka-based Bettis Asphalt and Construction Company for the Castleton Road improvement project.
The bid in the amount of $792,669 is for the grading and asphalt surfacing of about 1.5 miles from the Atchison County line north to K-20. The project will include a 8-inch cement treated subgrade.
The project is being done in conjunction with the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Federal Funds Exchange program.
