Mike Bodenhausen

(KAIR)--Atchison County Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen has been named the Kansas Dairy Leader Of The Year by the Kansas Dairy Inter-Breed Cattle Council.

Dr. Jeff Stevenson, an Animal Science Professor at Kansas State University, is part of the three member selection board made up of past award recipients. He says Bodenhausen's years of service and dedication to the field make him a worthy recipient. He has been involved in the industry even as far back as his days as a student at K-State, he worked for the Holstein Association, and classified cows in 42 states and three foreign countries. He also served as an officer, member, and delegate to the National Holstein Convention and for the past 8-10 years, has been the Executive Director for the Kansas Dairy Commission.

Bodenhausen says he was surprised to find out that he had received the honor because it's usually given to professors dedicated to the industry. Nonetheless, he is grateful to have been selected. He was very humbled saying “I am very appreciative of it, but it has a lot to do with the service you put into the dairy industry, and I feel that it is one of the things that I enjoy doing...giving back to a community or industry”.

Bodenhausen says his family has been in the dairy business since the early 1950s and he has been involved ever since he was able to walk. The family sold their herd in 2005.

The Kansas Dairy Leader Of The Year has only been given out 33 times since 1952.
