(KLZA) -- A project that will cost in excess of $3-million is scheduled to begin Monday at Brenner Field Airport in Falls City.
Work will include widening the runway from 60 to 75 feet, building a new taxi lane for airplanes at the north end and new lighting. In addition, the fencing around the airport will be completed.
Constructors Inc. of Lincoln, was awarded the contract for the work. Brenner Field will be closed down for 75 days, re-opened for 30 days and then shut down again for 15 days to complete the work.
90-percent of the cost will be covered by Federal funds with the remaining 10-percent to be paid by the Falls City Airport Authority. The total bid price is $3,086,874.
The updates will bring Brenner Field in line with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
Currently there are 32 aircraft housed at the Brenner Field Airport with a good number of aircraft being flown to the airport for mechanical repairs.
