(KTNC) -- Twenty-two varieties of soup made for plenty of full stomachs during the 6th Annual Empty Bowls Soup Supper in Falls City Thursday evening.
The event, sponsored by Southeast Nebraska Communications, is a fundraiser for the Backpack Program, which provides backpacks full of food for North and South School children on the weekends.
People got to sample the soups for a donation for the Backpack program, and then vote on their favorite variety.
SNC’s Debbie Witt says as of Friday morning they had raised approximately $4,100 – with more donations still coming in.
The winning soup, in a close vote, was the Loaded Baked Potato soup made by Breezy Hill Café. That received three more votes than Jim Wisdom’s “Retired” Potato Soup. In third place, one vote out of second place, was Joe Santo’s chicken tortilla soup.
The Falls City Backpack Program currently provides food for 28 children and their families.
