(KNZA)--Horton voters go to the polls Tuesday to decide two City Commission contests.
The most visible is that for the seat of Police Commissioner, held by Jeremy Forkenbrock, who has served in that role for seven years. “I think consistency in the commission is the key. It's not police in general is why I want to stay on. There are some issues we can address there and I think [Police Chief] John [Calhoon] is doing a wonderful job; but as a commission as a whole, with the lake, the water project, the sewer project, we've got the second phase coming up on that. I think it's important that we stick together and do it as a whole like we have been.”
Forkenbrock is challenged in his run for re-election by Bryan Stirton, who has held the seat in the past. “I want the seat to serve the public. I'd like to be their voice and get their concerns to the commission so everybody can decide on it as a whole. I've held the seat before, I had to get off because of an unforeseen death in the family. I have law enforcement experience, I was a police officer in the City of Horton, I have served with the Brown County Sheriff's Department on the Reserves, and security at Fort Leavenworth as well.”
Also seeking election to the Horton City Commission is Al Barton, who currently holds the seat of Parks and Recreation Commissioner. He was appointed to that role following a resignation.
He's challenged in his bid to retain that seat by Lonnie Boller.
Horton voters Tuesday will cast their ballots at the Blue Building.
