(MSC News)--An active weekend for Jackson County fire crews, with 35 incidents reported between Saturday and Sunday.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says the majority of those were grass fires.
Surrounding counties assisted in some of the cases, while the Hoyt and Mayetta Fire Departments helped out in northern Shawnee County.
Currently, a burn permit resolution is underway in Jackson County, meaning those who burn need a permit and must receive an ok from the Holton Fire Department.
The recent dry, windy conditions have led other area counties to issue outright burn bans. That includes Doniphan County, where County Commissioners have extended the ban through April 7th. Those who violate the ban could face a misdemeanor charge.
Violations include throwing cigarette butts, or similar smoking materials, on the ground.
Brown and Atchison Counties also remain under burn bans, likely to remain effective until the dry conditions are remedied by substantial moisture.
