BBB Warning About New Social Media Scam
(KTNC) -- If you see a Facebook post with the video of “Malaysia MH370 Plane Found In Bermuda Triangle, Passengers Alive", don't click on it. Jim Hegarty with the Better Business Bureau in Nebraska says this is a new scam targeting social media users.
Hegarty says if you click on the video you will be taken to a third party website where a pop-up will prompt you to update your video player. If you click on that you will download malware that is after personal financial information.
Hegarty says stay away from promotions and footage that claims to be "exclusive" or "shocking". He says while you can trust your friends you many not be able to trust their Facebook accounts as they can be hacked. The BBB also recommends hovering over a link to see if it’s a true destination and never click on links that lead you to unfamiliar websites.
