(KLZA)_ -- Falls City Council members have approved use of Stanton Lake Park for a drill during Emergency Medical Services Week, scheduled for May 23rd. City Administrator Gary Jorn, a member of the Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad explained the organization is planning to stage a mock automobile accident utilizing high school students and allow the public to watch the extrication process.
Also Monday night Dan Duren with Benefit Management, presented a mid-year report on the City health insurance costs. The annual renewal comes up in August. Last year Falls City got by without a premium increase. Duren says he cannot predict what will happen this year but is hoping for a good rate based on plan utilization by employees.
The Council did approved use of parking spaces uptown April 25th from 7 a-m until 3 p-m for a group of Model T car enthusiasts who will be coming to Falls City. Chamber / Main Street Director David Branch also discussed the plans for a barbecue contest, motorcycle show and street dance July 4th and 5th which coincides with a State Softball Tournament Falls City will host that weekend.
Ed Harris was granted approval for the building of a 30 x 60 foot steel building with 15 foot wings on each side on his property behind 1924 Fulton Street.
Shawn Foraker, owner of W & D Auto Care was given approval for improvements to his building at 19th and Harlan. Fouraker will add a 40 foot steel addition to the east of his current facility and cover his current building with steel so it matches.
Fouraker also plans to cover his current building in steel at the same time the addition goes up.
Utility Superintendent Alan Romine was appointed director and Utility Board Chairman Merle Viegel as alternate director to the MEAN Management Committee and Board of Directors.
Four housing rehab projects were approved and a temporary STOP sign will be placed on McLean Street at 35th Street during the airport runway expansion project due to the amount of cement trucks that will be using 35th Street.
