The American Cancer Society provides many services, both direct and via referral, to a variety of ways of offering support/assistance to Cancer Survivors and their Caregivers. They offer a Patient Service Center which aids patients in getting information and assistance in navigating health care systems, financial needs, and referrals to both services from the Cancer Society and other Community services.
A “Reach for Recovery” program is available. This program matches newly-diagnosed breast cancer patients with breast cancer survivors for information, support and rehabilitation.
A “Looks Good…Feel Better” program is in place. This is a free group session for cancer survivors where trained cosmetologists teach women how to cope with changes like skin changes and hair loss by using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetics industry.
Free wigs, hats, turbans, and scarves are available to patients who are undergoing cancer treatment. Most items can be mailed to the patients.
For information regarding all of these services, call the Topeka American Cancer Society Office at 1-800-227-2345. Remember: we all are working together to “Finish the Fight” against Cancer.
