21st Annual Earth Day Youth Event Set in Hiawatha

(KNZA)--The Morrill and Janes Bank and Trust Company will sponsor its 21st Annual Earth Day Youth Event on Wednesday.

It’s for 4th graders from Hiawatha, Horton and Kickapoo Nation Elementary school.

The event, which had been planned to be held at the Hiawatha City Lake,will instead happen at the Klinefelter Farm, east of Hiawatha, due to the threat of rain. Beginning at 9:30 in the morning, around 150 students, teachers and other guests are expected to attend.

There will be hands-on demonstrations and discussions will presented by the Natural Resources Conservation Services, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Brown County Conservation District, Delaware River WRAPS and Missouri River WRAPS.

Hiawatha Mayor Crosby Gernon Monday evening signed a proclamation declaring April 23rd as “Earth Day 2014” in Hiawatha, and encouraging residents to adopt conservation measures to safeguard the environment.
