Waterfowl Art to be Displayed at Several NW Mo. Locations

(KLZA)-- Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is working with partners across Northwest Missouri to present the 2014 Missouri Junior Duck Stamp art work.

The Junior Duck Stamp Program gives students across the nation recognition for their waterfowl art. 

Staff of Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge encourages everyone to take this opportunity to see the amazing art work of Missouri students. This year there will be three locations here in northwest Missouri for art and wildlife enthusiasts wishing to view top winner’s from the 2014 Missouri contest. The State Theater in Mound City will be hosting an Art Opening on May 4 from 4:00-6:30 P.M. The State Theater is located at 510 State Street, Mound City. Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge will be displaying art work from May 5- May 9. Visitors can view the art in the headquarters weekdays from 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. through May 9, 2014. Remington Nature Center in Saint Joseph Missouri will be displaying Junior Duck stamp winners from May 12- May 27. The Remington Nature Center has daily hour of operation from 10:00AM- 5:PM.

The Fish and Wildlife Service’s Federal Duck Stamp Office makes the national winner’s stamp available for $5.00. Proceeds from the Junior Duck Stamp sales are used to support environmental education efforts and awards for contest winners.

 The program is nationally coordinated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Arlington, VA. The Junior Duck Stamp Program has many benefits. It introduces school-age children to the natural world. It instills a sense of individual responsibility in the maintenance of our environment. The program benefits waterfowl and their habitats as well as all migratory birds and hundreds of plants and animals that share wetland habitats.
