(KMZA)--A groundbreaking ceremony has been set for Saturday, May 10th on a nearly $19 million hospital expansion project at Onaga.
The ceremony will take place at 10:30 in the morning at 120 West 8th Street in Onaga.
Greg Unruh, president and CEO of Community Healthcare System, says the project will involve building an expansion on the 1971 hospital building and demolition of a separate building that dates to 1957.
Unruh says the new state-of-the art hospital building will have more modern amenities—including private rooms, as well as a second operating room and space for more services.
Voters in Onaga Community Hospital District #1 last April approved the issuance of nearly $18 million in general obligation bonds to finance the project, which USDA Rural Development has agreed to purchase. In addition, the hospital will contribute $1 million.
The hospital board last October signed a contract with Overland Park-based Murray Company to oversee the project, which is to be completed by the end of 2015.
