(KAIR)--First responders were called to the scene of a residential fire in St. Joseph early Wednesday morning.
According to KQ2-TV, crews arrived at the home, located on 19th Street just before 1:30. Flames were observed expanding on the first floor of the residence, and smoke was in the process of overtaking the entire structure.
All three occupants, who were asleep when the fire started, were able to escape unharmed. Officials say working smoke alarms alerted them to the blaze.
The fire was under control in about a hour.
The home is expected to be a total loss, and fire inspectors are working to determine the cause of the fire.
