New HFED Director Presents Quarterly Report

(KNZA)--The new director of the Hiawatha Foundation for Economic Development presented the organization’s quarterly report to the Brown County Commission Wednesday.

Kristin Hillyer began work in March.

Hillyer says HFED’s housing committee has been looking into different housing options for the community. She says many of those moving to the area have voiced concerns about available housing, especially nurses and teachers.

Hillyer says HFED still has several free lots available at the north end of Hiawatha, at 2nd and Aztec Avenue, for the construction of new homes and are working to improve their marketing strategy.

She says ag tourism is being explored as a possible way to help draw more people to the community.

Hillyer also says HFED has been working on updating their three promotional Hiawatha billboard’s, which are located at Elwood, Axtell and Falls City.

Hillyer said HFED currently has a membership drive underway and is working to gain more community involvement in the economic development organization.

In addition, Hillyer said she has created a Facebook page and is working on creating a new website for HFED.

Hillyer also presented HFED's quarterly report to the Hiawatha City Commission last week.
