Falls City Arbor Day, May 2, 2014

(KTNC) -  Falls City marked Arbor Day officially on Friday. Members of the Falls City Tree Board marked the annual observance by planting an elm tree in the northwest corner of Legion Park, at 22nd and Wilson Street.
Falls City, City Clerk Gary Jorn read a proclamation during a brief ceremony at the park Friday morning.
Jorn noted that Ed Harris donated the elm tree, Rita Seid moved it to the park, and Rodney Knaup donated the money to move the tree.
Arbor Day originated in Nebraska, with Sterling J. Morton, in 1872. More than one million trees were planted in Nebraska during the first Arbor Day celebration.
