(KNZA)--New leadership for the City of Horton, as recently elected Police Commissioner Bryan Stirton was sworn into office Monday night.
Stirton defeated seven-year incumbent Jeremy Forkenbrock in last month's general election.
Also sworn into office at the start of Monday's meeting was Parks and Recreation Commissioner Al Barton. He defeated challenger Lonnie Boller in a coin toss after the outcome at the polls ended in a tie.
Barton has served in the role since October of 2012 when he was appointed to fill a vacancy.
Following the swearing in ceremony, with the oath of office for both Stirton and Barton administered by City Clerk Kim Clausen, the Commission got down to business.
That included the approval of a new City Hall phone system, to be purchased from Rainbow Communications, at a total cost of $7,940.
The current phone system, while operating, is growing old, with replacement parts becoming obsolete.
Barton cast the lone no vote to the upgrade.
