(KTNC) - As four Republicans duke it out for their party’s nomination for U.S. Senate, the presumptive Democratic challenger is also campaigning across the state.
Dave Domina made several stops in southeast Nebraska Thursday, including Falls City.
Domina says he’s stayed out of the “3 million a head” primary and has focused on building his campaign, which he says will start in earnest on May 14.
He says the issues he hears most about from Nebraskans are protecting Social Security and Medicare, and honoring the nation's commitment to veterans. He also says there's a level of concern about climate change and what can be done to address that.
Domina, an attorney, represents landowners who have sued the state of Nebraska over a law giving the governor and Department of Environmental Quality authority to approve the proposed Keystone XL pipeline through the state.
He says the issue in the state is one of property rights, and Nebraskans almost universally agree with the landowner's position in the case.
Domina says he will make a strong effort to win the Senate seat. He says his years of living in what is now the 3rd Congressional District, and his business interests in the district, could help him wage a competitive campaign in the traditional Republican stronghold.
Domina says he is watching the Republican primary, but doesn’t care who wins that race. Republicans seeking their party’s nomination are Omaha banker Sid Dinsdale, attorney Bart McLeay, former State Treasurer Shane Osborn, and Midland University President Ben Sasse.
Domina made campaign stops in Tecumseh and Pawnee City in addition to Falls City on Thursday.
